Is My Betta Sick2007-11-24 23:11:42

I was walking by my Betta's tank, so I decided to give look at him, see how things were going, and my Betta was at the top of the water just swimming there. Then My Betta just sank to the gravel and he lay there motionless, just moving his little fins on each side of him, An hour later I went up, and he was still lying there, lethargic and under his head were these little white spots, a few of them, When I put a pellet in, he ate it and then a few seconds later he spat it out, and I didn't even feed him yet! Now all my Betta does is just lay on the gravel, and he doesn't even move around, I've only had him for a little less than a month! Also he lives in a one gallon tank with a light and some gravel, fake plants, and a castle. I'm starting to get scared. Will he be alright? Does he have Ick? Please Help me! This is my first fish and I don't want him to pass away. Any help would be great! Thanks in advance!

If the spots look like salt on him it probably ich.Betta that are in really small tanks with out a heater tend to be lethargic though,he would do better if you got him a 2.5 gallon tank with a small heater and filter but if you can't manage that make sure that you change his water about twice a week and keep him in warm spot where the temperature doesn't change much.

He most likely has ich, but its pretty normal for bettas to just sit around. I'd suggest buying some ich medicine for him from your local pet store.

how big are he spots it could be ick9(white spot) or it could be a fungus are the spots like a pin head dot or are they like a cotton wool sort of growth,i would take your fish to an aquatic shop and get a proper diagnosis

I am not sure if your fish has ich but I hope it does not. To treat ich you need to buy a "formalin" product. They are available over the counter and is typically a 37% solution of formaldehype
