Is it necessary to have a heater while taking care of Mollies2007-11-24 23:11:34

Since Mollies are tropical fish would they need a heater?

Answers:

The fish beeing tropical is exactly the reason they need steady temperature

Even if your room temperature is a certain temperature, it still cools in the evening

With the heater you add stability to it

It means when the temperature goes beneath the setting it will turn on

Here is also some more info on their needs

Hope that helps

Good luck

Since mollies are tropical fish is the exact reason why they need a heater. Tropical climate waters are a constant 72-82 degrees F. Unless you live in a climate that provides that constant temperature naturally, yes, you need a heater.
A good answer depends on one simple question. Where do you live and how warm is the room where the aquarium will be? The fish would like the water to be a bit warmer than we like the room temperature to be. In most locations I'd recommend a heater.
no they dont need a heater unless the water is colder than 75 digrese ferinhite
Of course they do. You need to keep the water one steady temp. Going from one temp. to another can put them into shock. Most fish like theirs at about 78 degrees. Some more, some less. I'd set it at the 78 and see if they like it. If not you can always raise it or lower it for them. The more comfortable they are the longer they'll last. How to tell: If they cluster around the heater you need to raise it, If they stay away and try to hide lower it. Also get a ph kit to keep a check on your water. Lots of luck, mollies are nice fish.
