Is it possible my elephant nose killed my irridescent shark2007-11-24 23:37:44

The elephant nose took over the sharks spot in my cave. The shark was fine and all of the sudden after I put the elephant nose in the tank my shark has a big chunk taken out of his side and unfortunately died.

Answers:

The most aggressive thing I ever saw my elephantnose do was to waggle his nose at another fish that swam into his cave. The other fish wasn't overly intimidated by this, to say the least.

Probably..we had several fish in our aquarium. They gradually died and our redfin shark had it all to himself for a few months. We bought new bala sharks, irridescent sharks, blue cats, etc. The redfin is so territorial that he terrorized them, chased them away from food and bit them. They all died! The only thing he leaves alone in the Plecto Cat that cleans the sides of the tank and he is HUGE!

In my 20+ years of fish keeping I have learned that can't, shouldn't, and not supposed to do not always work out that way in the real world. I have never heard of an Elephant nose being aggressive or even being capable of causing a severe/lethal bite injury to a fish like any of the "sharks."

Aparently they are using the common name of "Irridescent Shark" for the Pangasius Shark/Catfish now. Can you confirm that it was a Pangasius and not a Rainbow, Red Tail, Bala or ? Was there a massive size difference, like full grown Elephant nose vs a 1" shark?
