Is my betta old or sick
I have had my male betta for over a year. His colors are not as bight and the tips of his fins are white. Is he sick or just old?

Not at all i have 4 Betta fish and one of then is like that, as a dominican i know everything about Bettas, that's normal because they have different colors, there are yellow Bettas too but they are hard to found, blue, red, black and white tail. don't worry about is normal trust me, i have betta since i was 2 years old. just make sure that if you buy another one they don't get together or they will fight. But wow you know how to take care of a Betta too because over a year is pretty good.
But if you want your betta to live longer use the betta medicine drops in the water,You can get this at Walmart or a pet store. And if you're not sure what it is, go to the pet store and talk to the person who work there.
But don't listen to the guy below me because trust me in my my life i have more than 500 betta because in the dominican republic i use to go to the lakes or lagunas and catch then.

got to those sites if you are not sure because it could be sick but i never had a sick betta before. is a good site for bettas.
It sounds like he may have a condition that fish get called "Ick". You can treat it by putting medicine drops int he water. You can get this at Walmart or a pet store. And if you're not sure what it is, go to the pet store and talk to the person who works in the aquarium. Chances are he can help you. But it sounds like Ick to me. Poor fish, I hope you can get teh medicine. I had a Betta for 5 years. I'm not kidding. Everyone thinks I'm lying but I'm not. He had Ick a few times and with the drops he got better.
