My female beta "bluesee" was in a tank with a male "red" and i was wondering do they get pregnant? i heard somewhere the males carry the eggs, and if so why is she so big? and what do i do when they come?

What most fish owners don't know is that leaving the parents in with the eggs are not a good idea, because first-time fish mothers may mistake them for rocks and leave them, and be scared when she wakes up one day and little fish are swimming in her tank. If she has any eggs, get a tank A.S.A.P and put BOTH the parents in, so nobody mistakes any eggs for rocks, and nobody eats any eggs for breakfast :-).

When your fish is getting bigger there is three things that could possibly be happening:

1.) bloat

2.) Pregnancy

3.) She is getting overweight

What to do:

1.) if she is bloating you will start to notice she is floating at the surface of the water. Feed her some mushed up peas (nothing but that), until she is able to sink back down.

2.) there's nothing special you should do when your fish is pregnant but wait.

3.) if your fish is over weight, cut down her feeding and feed her 1 pinch every 2 days.

Ok, if I remember correctly, this is how it works. The male "squeezes" the female after he has made what is called a bubble nest at the top of the tank. When he squeezes her, eggs will fall out, he picks them up and puts them in the nest. You need to remove her after she has had the eggs. He will care for the eggs. After the eggs hatch, then you need to remove him from the tank or he will eat them. The males are very mean and sometimes they are very agressive with the females.
