Is my fish, going to pass away soon2007-11-24 23:37:27

My placatmous, I may have mispelled that, but you know the bottom feeder? He has started to swim upside down on top on the water the last few weeks. I have never seen him/her do this before. He is doing this in the morning time, come afternoon, he is back down at the bottom like nothing is happening. Is he going to pass away soon? Or, maybe he enjoys the new swim?

all of my goldfish did the same thing it was like they went retarded or something I just thought it was a gold fish disease. They all did eventually die so if yours has the same thing its probably going to happen sometime. But hopefully its like you said maybe he just enjoys the new swim. Good luck

Does he seem to do it when you're feeding the fish? A lot of times if there's not enough algae for them to eat, they'll start eating the flakes, and swim upside down to eat them. If you're not already, try putting some algae wafers(I usually feed 2) in the tank, preferably when it's dark/evening hours. If it's been going on a few weeks, and he seems fine, probably is. I'd still feed the wafers additionally though.

He might just be hungry. We need to feed him algae wafers. He might be swimming upsidedown at the surface looking for fish flakes.

Do you have plenty of bubbles in the tanks? He made be looking for oxygen up there. Usually whne ifsh are sick they get tiny white spots on them, sometimes a foggy eye.

I've had this happen to my fish once. Your fish's swim bladder has gone bad. When this happens to fish they can't control if they swim upside down or rightside up. Your fish might passaway soon. If you are really worried about your fish, bring him/her to the doctor. They might be able to give it surgery. But otherwise, you fish is very sick. My advice is to bring it to the doctor.

Sorry to say but, my fish did the same thing when it was about to pass away. I gave it food and it ate it but she was swimming funny. She couldn't uncurl herself,it was like she was frozen that was or something. I would look into getting a new fishy.
