Is there a website to find out how much my Koi are worth2007-11-24 23:37:35

I have some beautiful Koi from 12 inches to 24 inches long. One is a black and white butterfly Koi. Where can I go to see how much they are worth? I did a search but came up with nothing.

The price of koi can be a complicated issue and ultimately is set by what someone is prepared to pay. There isn't a website that will give you a valuation of your koi but there are some that you can get an idea. A good place to start is Ebay.

Koi prices are set by how close to perfection they are. This is a subjective quality but there are rules used at koi shows to judge this. Koi get more expensive the rarer they become on a scale of qualities starting with good health, no deformities or scars, size, Japanese or home bred, name of breeder and bloodline, depth and uniformity of colour and pattern.

Perhaps the best way to get a valuation is to ask your nearest koi dealer by showing them photos. Koi forums are also a good place to post photos and get opinions.

I'm guessing you are in the US because Butterfly koi are more popular there, so checkout Blackwater Creek http://www.koisale.com/ which can give you details of how to find your nearest dealer.

Koi auction sites are also a good way to find out prices, but be warned they tend to only deal with the highest quality koi so they can be expensive.

Koi are pets, and so however much they might cost they should be treated equally and with care. Many hobbyists have a favourite koi that to an outsider may be nothing special, but to them has a value beyond it's price.

Hope this helps.

koi most certainly do get that big and bigger, at our japanese

gardens here in town the koi are easily 5 feet

the value of your koi would be based mostly on its coloring .Some Koi are worth a fortune, with prices which can go up to 50.000 or 60.000 Swedish crones (or five to six thousands pounds sterling)
