ive decied to just get 1 gold fish for my ten gallon tank when can i put him in ?
Answers:I also started out with a 10-gallon fish tank, and also started with goldfish, blackmoore to be exact. It is not recommended, as I found out, to have goldfish in a small tank, but it is possible. You should at least, talking in my own experience, leave the water cycling for a day, make sure you use a water conditioner, it makes tap water safe for fish, and have a partner for the goldfish, two is what i would recommend, make sure you have plants as well. Also, goldfish are one of the dirtiest fish, so have a cleaner also, a plecostomus, small of curse, and have a hide out place because they like to be hidden, what this fish does is it will clean your tank.
well its not recommended you have a goldfish in a tank smaller than 30g since its to small for such an active fish.
But if your fish less cycling you can expect it to take around 3-5 weeks.
Should have waited a few weeks before you bought the fish. I let my tanks cycle for a whole month. BUT! If you have a fish, then there is some things you can do.
First, get some ammonia, nitrate and pH test kits. Monitor all three levels very closely for a week. If ammonia levels get into "dangerous" levels- that means your tank is cycling- which is good, but not so good for the fish. Ammonia will nautrally drop over a week or two as your tank develops bacteria to get rid of the ammonia. Ammonia is converted into nitrate. So you will see your ammonia levels drop and your nitrate levels raise after 3-4 weeks, which may also be deadly to a fish. Once the tank developes a way to process the nitrate, your tank has cycled. All ammonia and nitrate levels will be at "0" once a tank has cycled.
You may have to do more frequent partial water changes to keep the ammonia and nitrate levels at an acceptable level so you don't kill your fish. This may mean your tank will take a little longer than normal to cycle, but it'll eventually do it!
Luckily goldfish are very hardy and are more tolerant than other fish to changes in water conditions. Research how much water you should change for your size of tank. Just keep and eye on things and good luck!
