Ive made the mistake of changing all of my pond water Pls HELP PLS2007-11-24 23:11:49

I did it cos the previous water was dirty and the pebbles are all trapping dirt and droppings. My koi are all now dying. Is it too late to do anything now?

Unfortunately, a call to the vet won't help this time. Changing all of the water destroys the beneficial bacteria that has built up in the habitat. Chances are, you will lose them. You can go to the pet store and get a bacteria starter to put in the water. MAYBE you have a few fighters that will make it. Next time you want to clean the water, only change 25% and refill what you've taken with clean, pre-treated water. I also have a large pleco in my pond for the summer months to help keep things clean. If you do this, he will need to be transported to an indoor tank over the winter. Hope this helps!

yes it is too late, I'm sorry the same thing happened to me. they all died within a couple of days.
Call the vet asap
first.contact a local koi pond supplier....If it's a chlorine problem from tap water, try an anti-chlorine treatment [ should have some at local pet store ] ... if it's from a temperature change you might try rock salt [ like the 50 lb bags at home improvement centers for water softener ] helps reduce stress.if you just did this, and you know what the temperature was before the change, do what you can to return the water to the same temperature, but whatever you do, do it quickly......good luck..
get some aqua safe water conditioner and you may save them.trust me i know.
