Light in the fish bowl

Light in the fish bowl2007-11-24 23:38:02

I have a fish bowl with a light on it. I don't like having the light on at night because it keeps me awake. Is it really nescesary to keep it on? Does it affect the Fish?

Answers:

Illuminated bowls and tanks look great, but external light is all they require (light entering from a window or room light, etc). A tank or bowl light is used primarily for viewing purposes only (meaning the light is actually for you, not the fish).

As long as they aren't kept in complete darkness throughout the entire day, running the light isn't necessary.

don't put a lite on it .yes it scares the fish the fish is from under water were it is dark.
Fish need at least 8 -12 hours of light a day, it is not needed be on 24-7. Fish do need to sleep too.

Good Luck :-)

Fish don't have solid eyelids to keep out light. If the light is on 24 hours a day, the fish can't sleep. Therefore it is fine that you turn out the light at night.
lights are good for your fish, keeps them healthy and happy.

Try to keep the hours normal day-night hours though so they aren't confused and have off set times.

Get a white light or something to that degree, you can find it at petco. It's about the same as regular sunlight which keeps them happy!.unless you're an african fish..who likes to randomly attack it.errr.no that's not a personal experience.I swear.

You have a light on a fish bowl? Do your fish a favor and buy an aquarium with filtration and a full hood.
You can switch it off without affecting the fishes as they need to sleep too.
