Long finned Zebra Danio & neon tetra freshwater fish
The danio chases the neon tetra constatnly and has bitten off most of the tail of the tetra. How long can the tetra live without his tail and is it suffering? It still swims (a little lopsided) and hangs out behind a plant but comes out for feeding time.
Answers:Only a matter of time before the Danio kills it.. sorry
Do yourself a favor, it took me awhile and I finally did it - but go with a saltwater tank - once you figure out the salt & water mix, it's easier and the fish are so much prettier..

You cannot mix these fish to gether in the same tank. The Danio is a vicious fish and will continue to attack the tetras.
Danios are too aggressive to be with tetras.
fish DO feel pain, so I would say that yes, its suffering. If the rays of the tail fin are bitten off, it might grow back a little (maybe with some help from melafix) but the poor fish still won't do that well. He's a gonner, unless you can find a new home for him.
what size is your tank ? i have danio's & tetras together and have no problem . i have them in a 55gal . i have lots of plants and caves .
Zebra Danios are a schooling fish that are agressive if kept in groups of less than 3 (preferably 6) of the same species (some still may remain agressive.) Put the Neon in its own tank and get it some more of its species after it heals. Get 5 more zebra danios and you'll enjoy watching them school
