ica rock?

Is mica rock aquarium safe? I've researched it and the consensus came back about 50/50 for yes/no. I don't see any metal on the mica rock i have but i don't want to harm my fish (soon will be african cichlids). My tank is empty right now so it is no problem to remove it but i spent $35 on the rocks. Should I be cautious and just eat the $35?

Answers:

A consensus of 50/50 means nobody knows for sure. Did you buy the rocks at the fish store? If so, they should be OK. If not, see below:

A good way to test any rocks that you put into your aquarium is to put a few drops of white vinegar on them while they are dry. If they bubble, you will have problems. They will continually raise the pH of your tank water. If they do not bubble, they are OK.

With cichlids, a higher pH is usually desireable, but you don't want to have it get too high. I keep mostly African rift lake cichlids and my tap water is 7.4 so they like it fine. All my rocks are inert (no bubbles).

yeah I agree there is no known answer have you tried a petstore?
If you are unsure..you shouldnt put it in there.it kinda looks harmful anyways
