Moving with a fish

Moving with a fish2007-11-24 23:38:57

So we are moving away a 9 hour car ride to be exact. How in the world do I travel that far with my sons Betta Fish? I have the cup he came in with a lid but seems kinda far and long to ride like that. Fish are not really my area but I don't want to tramatize him so any help apprecited!

Answers:

Any container will do. Things to consider:

1)He breathes air from the surface of the water. Be sure he got a lot of air.

2)Quick changes in temp are bad. Don't leave him in the car on a hot or cold day.

3)Quick changes in light are bad. Keep him covered, and don't quickly remove him into bright light.

4)Don't feed hi durning the trip.

Ideal containers:

-Small cooler

-Large pickle jar in a paper bag

-Thermos (if it's really cold)

PS- Be sure to follow safe procedures once you get there. (see link)

PPS- As long as you keep him warm he should be fine. Betta have survived being lost weeks in shipping.

When my wife left me she traveled 16 hours with two goldfish. They will be fine. Feed them and put them in a decent size container then make sure the temperature is right. They will make it.
pet shops do a service, that they pack em! 4 u most will do it 4 free but i don't no ur pet shop
Bettas are easy to move. Keep them in a larger container and keep them out of sunlight. There are some pet stores that do carry a blue tablet that will "numb" out the fish. I have seen fish trasported this way, but for bettas, no big deal.
Pt them in a good container and feed them and they will be good.
the best way to do it is to have someone thay's sitting on the SHADY side of the car to hold him. short of that put him in a secure spot on the floor surrounded by cushions or towels or something of that nature to keep the bowl from moving. and make sure he doesn't get in the sun for any length of time. the car glass will act as an amplifier and make the water hotter than he--. MY Mom traveled from mich. to fla. by car, fish on the backseat floor and they made it. good luck
Your Betta should be fine in the little bowl that he came in. just keep him out of the heat. Bettas are strong fish. Just don't feed him before you leave, or he will soil his water. keep an eye on the temp in the bowl, and if you stop some where don't leave him for very long. Just Remember, Clean water, and a temp under 80 degrees, and he should be fine for the trip. good luck
