My Beta fish has been acting strange is he upset2007-11-24 23:38:06

We have a small fake plant and he will put his head as far down into the center of the plant as possible, to the point where his fins appear to be part of the plant. He will stay ther very still for 10 -15 minutes at a time. we have had him for a few months now and he has never done this before. I am afraid one day he won't come out.

Note that most of the above people don't know bettas. A male betta will not put up long term with any betta. (Male or female) In the end it's a cage match to the death.

As far as the plant. Bettas like to hide, but this sounds dangerous. Find another fake plant or cave that he can hide under, and rest on. Be sure that it has no sharp edges that can hurt his fins.

You must have ticked him off! J/K.. Does he have fresh water? Does the water have too much cholorine? Check to see if there are any spots or fuzzy stuff on him. Maybe he has a fungus or ick. They have water treatment for that.

He does this because he's a special kind of Beta. I believe it's called a "Masta."

he may need a partner or he may be sick. Keep a close eye on him my sons fish did the same thing and died a few days later.

Maybe he's just tired. What kind of water filtration system do you have? Does it cause a strong current for your fish to swim in? If it causes a strong current, it gets your fish tired. We used to have a Betta and the water filtration system we had for it was too strong, he would just stay in his deco log we had at the bottom of the tank. We switched the filter to the kind that is in the corner making bubbles instead of a "waterfall" type one, and after that change, he would swim around more and seemed more active.

Is the plant soft? Beta fish like to sleep on soft plants.
