My Betta has a large bluggy eye, can it be cured2007-11-24 23:38:13Answers:

depends on what caused it - trauma may be treatable - but the cost of treating the fish may not make it worth it.

If he's always had it then it probably can't be treated.

im pretty sure that pet stores sell special food/water drops for this. My betta fish is extremely healthy. I use HIkari Betta Bio-Gold food, and Splendid Betta complete Water Conditioner. I have my fish in a 1 gallon tank with an air pump (the bubble thingy) and a light. I also keep him next to the window so the sunlight can go in his tank b/c they like warm water. Change the water often and dont keep him with other fish. hope it helps
is the eye kinda clouded over, bloodshot looking, red around it, bulgy? If thats the case, then he has pop eye. It can be treated with medication you can buy at the pet store (petco, petsmart, wherever you pick).

The stuff Ive used when I had this problem was Mardel's Maracyn-two. Just follow the instructions . They are just little tabs you put in the water, that dissolve.

If your fish is getting sick, then you need to keep a close eye on the water params. 95% of illness is caused by bad water quality. Is the tank cycled? If not, then you need to. If you dont, you will only keep having problems.

good luck

I believe I read it's call bubble eye, caused by to cold temp. change and I had a new one developed it, I changed the water, warmed it to 80 and added salt to the water (teaspoon per gal).It went down by the next day and he's still alive. Good Luck!! ?:)~
Possibly popeye, due to poor water conditions most likelly. If he's in a bowl, you'll need to start doing daily water changes, or at the very least every other day. Change 50% of the water at a time, and be sure to not overfeed. Also pick up some meds at the pet store that treat it.
He has a condition known as "popeye". The cause is internal pressure. The pressure can be from many different things. The most common is infection. You can try treating him with "Maracyn 2" by Mardel or "Kanacyn" by Aquatronics. These are the only ones I know of that actually absorbs inside the fish to treat the infection. The others treat the outside only.

If the pressure is caused by a tumor or something, there really isn't anything you can do. Just keep him as healthy as you can with water changes. Twice a week water changes and higher temperatures will help his immune system improve and he may be able to fight off whatever it is on his own.
