My Female Betta Has Eggs I Do not want Betta Babies will she die if i do not breed her2007-11-24 23:09:44

A few weeks after i got my female betta to breed She had eggs i realized i was not ready to have betta babies will she die from being egg bound?

Answers:

No, she will not die from being egg-bound. Typically the females who develop eggs with no male around just reabsorb the eggs back into their body.

Maybe one in 500-1000 might become egg bound and die.

No, in fact, it is the males that care for the fry, the female leaves after she lays the eggs.

Also, bettas do not have to breed to live long, happy lives.

Bettas have eggs in them always. The eggs are fertilized outside of her body and so she just releases them while mating. I have heard of females releasing unfertilized eggs without the presence of a male on occassion. She will be just fine.
It's like a female human with ovaries, she doesn't need to have a baby in order to live.
