My Pacu is hitting itself against its glass tank2007-11-24 23:38:44

Is this healthy? It's tank is fairly large enough for the fish to be happy. None of my other fish do this except this one fish. (by the way i have two fish tanks and one tank has the pacu in it, the fish are not mixed). What causes this behavior?

Pacu's are beautiful fish but very aggressive. I have one and every time I make a sudden move near the tank or walk by it in a hurry he will splash and hit the glass. It drives me nuts so I had to moved the tank out of a high traffic zone and into a more isolated location that can still be viewed easily. I have had to take most of the tank decorations out cause he would just knock them over and make an awful mess. Pacu鈥檚 are labeled as vegetarians but they are not strictly vegetarians. Mine eats little feeder fish and has eaten several of my peacocks eels.

Well OBVIOUSLY your fish has suicidal tendencies. I suggest you feed it some ganja. Will fix him up in a jiffy.

You do realize how big pacus get? Depending on species they are going to reach 18"+ in your aquarium. You're going to need a huge tank, and loads of filtration for just this fish. He probably wants some swimming room.

I don't know about the nature of Pacu's---would he maybe be seeing the fish in the other tank, & trying to get at them?

I have two betta fish (in seperate tanks), & one of them has periods when he goes bonkers trying to get at the other one. I've often wondered if he's gonna give himself a little fishy-concussion or something, he hits his tank so hard!! LOL!!

Im sure by now youve done a water sample to make sure there

was no high ammonia spike or ph spike in tank - You can try and add another Pacu or Oscar of the same size - Hopefully you have him on a pellet food as they are vegetarians too.

Maybe change diet to reflect that and you should cover the glass where he is hiiting up against with paper until he stops.
