My Pleco sleeps during the day and comes out and cleans the tank at night, is this normal2007-11-24 23:39:24

I have a Pleco in my Goldfish tank. All day, he stays under one of my aquarium decorations, and does'nt come out at all. At night, I've seen him come out occasionally and eat, is this normal? My other Plecos in a tropical tank move during the day.

Yes - very normal. They are nocturnal, and need someplace to sleep when your light is on. If you have a rock or some drift wood in there - he/she will sleep in the shadows during the day, and then clean like a Hoover at night.

Don't worry - he/she is doing just fine.

Yes it is normal, and he might also fear the goldfish. Goldfish are a type of carp, which are dirty and hungry fish. Your tropical tank probably has nicer fish in it, so that pleco feels safe. Goldfish will eat your pleco, if the opportunity arrises, and the sizes are right. They can even eat the pleco even if the goldfish are smaller than it.

well some plecos are shy. I had a pleco that ran away and hid when i approached the tank. And I had him when he was 3 inches long. My other pleco was not shy and he was about 10 inches when got him.
