My Shubunkin Goldfish need help Someone has eaten her tail2007-11-24 23:39:27

Actually i have one 200 gal out door pond, where i have 10 goldfish (3 shubunkin, 7 fancy goldfish) this morning when i was feeding them i found one of my big shubunkin goldfish lose her beautiful long tail, she was very well till last night but one other shubukin was just running after her, and this morning before i feed them i saw my dog drinking water from that pond. i am confused whether my dog eat her tail or other fish. Help me! How can i recover her tail again?

they usually get growing while they still alive .just try to keep them alive then they grow again.

i really doubt that your dog bit her tail off, it really sounds more like a bird (owl) or night creature (coon or possum) and the other fish couldn't tear off her whole tail overnight if some creature is coming to your pond, it will return. you need to get pond netting to put over the pond at night

keep an eye on her and make sure the injury doesn't fungus

most likely another fish did it. The injured fish may be getting old and the other fish can sense it. Aside from seperating the wounded fish from the rest of the pond and treating it with antiseptics for fish until its tail re-generates ( takes a few months) theres not much you can do.

Give it time and it will grow back.Just feed them and treat them the same way you always did.Good luck.
