also keep in mind that betas tend to lay in funny ways. check his breathing, is it rapid? if not, he may just be laying that way sleeping. i have had several betas and they all have different personalities and ways they lay. i have had many scares that have just turned into them sleeping funny.

Change out the water and add a little salt and warm to around 80 degrees. Good Luck!! ?;)~~

I don't think everyone should tell you he's definitely going to die. I had the same problem almost two weeks ago, that's what my fish was doing. I changed the water and he was better a day or so later. I tried to get a fancy fish medicine but I couldn't figure out what the problem was, so I didn't do anything and lo and behold he survived. If you have kept him alive for two years then I imagine that he has clean enough water and decent food. Has anything else changed? Have you moved his bowl to a new location? As much as people tell you that Bettas don't need a heater, they are a tropical fish. If your room temperature has dropped lower than he is used to he might be reacting to that.
