Other than that you could try placing a mirror near his bowl. Sometimes waking up the fighting spirit in them is all it takes to remind them that life is good and they are the baddest dudes in their territory (which of course is true if you have him in a bowl all alone, but we'll let him have a nice vacation on his trip to egomannia).

If he is dying there isn't much that can be done by anyone if it isn't from a disease, water quality, or an injury. Those things can be treated, but old age is just as incurable and lethal to pets as it is to people. Good luck!

if the fish seems to be fine other than not being able to swim right sounds like a swim bladder problem it is from stress there is a cure but but it would take some doin large fish that this happens to can be corrected by inserting a syringe into the swim bladder and adding air but really not worth all the trouble sorry but get another fish
