My beta is losing its color2007-11-24 23:38:09

I purchase a beta about 3 weeks ago. Last week i notice that he had started to lose some of his color around his eyes and base of his tail. Now the color loss has spread over most of his body. The fish is acting healthy. He's still very active and there is no loss of appetite. I've looked online for some sort of diagnosis and solution but found nothing helpful.

Color loss is likely the result of stress, and poor health. This is likely the result of bad water conditions due to over feeding, or not cleaning the bowl often enough. Another possiblity is poor diet. Is his food primarily worm/shrimp/fish? (He's a carnivore.)

if u have any fish in a dark or sort of dark room they will loose their color.but not all of it..they will just look real pale. if u put him in brighter light he should rurn a bit brighter

I would take a sample of your water to petsmart and have it tested fish need good and bad bacteria to live and they have to have well balanced water to live

it could be the type of food u r feeding it, or u r not keeping her in a well lit bright room

well if you did not know your beta is losing its color because its getting old and about to die.

my beta fish was like that. 3 weeks later i got another one and i had them from 2002 and know i have 12 betas because the same ones keep reproducing and the 2 betas i got in 2002 are still with me.know you can see how long they can live.

i change the water in my bettas bowl two times a week. he is very healthy and colorful. maybe you need to keep him cleaner!

you should get your water tested at petco b/c i know they dop it for free.

Hes stressed. It happens when they are introduced to a new environment.
