My betta fish are spitting out their food and their tank is getting dirty very quickly Is this norma2007-11-24 23:38:10

i havent cleaned it for 3 years and i feed it once a week, dont

clean it and i know it looks bad but its healthier for the fish this is my second beta fish and my firstt one lived for 8 years and i did the same thing

Yeah, that is how they eat it. I think it is because they are meat eaters, they sort of like to feel like they are working for, or attacking it a bit.

Try getting a bigger tank. It won't get as dirty so fast. You could get one with a pump.

don't know much about beta's but thought it might be helpful to know that if they start moving real slowly and sticking around the bottom of tank more it means they are sick.its odd cause unlike other fish when beta's die they go to the bottom where as others float to top..anyways if you think anything is strange with your beta the place you got it at can be helpful if they are not then any petstore may be able to help you cause believe it or not they have treatments/medicines for little fish too that would make them healthy again..do a google search for beta's you may be surprised what you could find out

yes fish are not as easy as you think thet are

remember clean there cage alot. Spend more time with it. dont put it near a light. They dont like that

my betta died a while ago.. he was almost 5.. we didn't change the water a whole lot.. but he was healthy. i fed him pellets and he ate some n left the rest so i guess it's normal..

Yes it is normal. Fish do that all the time. You could try feeding him smaller food particles which are easy to take in.Fish are tiny, its sometimes hard for them to take in a big piece of food.
