My female guppies are rejecting my males in my 5-Gallon Tank Is that normal2007-11-24 23:39:08

When the males reach up with their gonopodia, the females will jerk around and swim away. The females are already pregnant from the fish store I bought them in a few days ago, I think.

Answers:

One female guppy can carry enough sperm for up to 5 batches of fry from a single successful implantation of sperm. It is normal for males to consistently try to breed with females and normal for females to consistently try to not be bothered by the males. If you have too many males to females though, the females will become stressed from being chased. Add some plants/decorations to your tank to keep them happier.

maybe u should try for a bigger tank?
This is normal to reject them when they are pregnant. Becareful of how many males you have to females. It should be 1 male to 2 or 3 females. To many males cause stress on the females by constantly chasing them around the tank to breed. Guppy males are known to eat the fry and another reason the pregnant females try and stay clear of them.
You have to leave then and keep the female fish if they are pregnant in 8 inch water away from the other guppies.
