My first Angel fish - tank size

My first Angel fish - tank size2007-11-24 23:09:46

If I were to keep 2 Freshwater Angel fish about 1.5" from mouth to tail.

What is the minimum size of the tank?

Is it ok if I have other small fishes in the tank?

Is it ok if my room has a temperature of 23 degrees celcius?

Answers:

You should get a tank big enough for the Angels when they are full grown. If you want to keep other fish, the tank will have to be big enough so that they can keep away from the Angels, who love to chase and pick on other fish. If you have a male and female, you will have to have and even bigger tank, since they will kill any fish that gets near their eggs/babies, or they will eat their babies. Minimum tank size for two full grown angels is a 20 gallon tank. If you want other fish, do NOT get small fish that the angels can eat, and minimum size is a 40 gallon (depending on how many fish, and the size of fish). It is 1 inch of fish per gallon, and angel fish will grow to up to 6 inches in diameter, but they need extra room since they can be aggressive, especially in pairs. I currently have a pair of breeding angels in a 20 gallon with one algae eater - and they are terrorizing the algae eater!

Since they are medium sized fishes and needs height to show of the finnage, i suggest you get a tall 35 gallon tank, if your keeping angels only. But if you want some other fishes to go with the angels then you should get a 50 gallon.

It is ok to have some other fishes with them, so long as they are not too small that they will fit into the mouths of the angels.
