My fish is sick someone help =( Hes a guppie2007-11-24 23:34:03

I got a tank about 2 weeks ago and my fish is swimming irregulary, like its having a heartattack. The guy at petco said I have ammonia in my tank and so I treated it yesterday and one of my fishes was attacking my sick fish! I took my sick fish out into its own bowl with the water from the tank and hes still sitting at the bottom =( what can I do?? I tried to feed him already

Answers:

First - stop feeding him. This is causing more ammonia to come into your tank. Fish are surprisingly resiliant when it comes to food - most fish can go several weeks without food. If you MUST feed him -limit it to 1 or 2 flakes, or 1 pellet. Continue to keep your fish isolated until he's better. He's probably suffering from ammonia poisoning. If you've already treated your water, great - continue to do 20-30% water changes every other day. If he suffered from poisoning, he'll be down and 'weird' until he's feeling better. Good luck!

To Quote Star Trek "He is dead Jim".fish die.I am sorry for your pending lose.plan the funeral.it just so easy for them to get sick and die.I feel for you.
hey,

try checking his temperature! maybe he's not even sick and he's just feelin a bit lazy today!

I just think if the fish is going to die it just is. Fish from large chain stores often have some type of illness and there is little to do to help them. There are some pet supplies that help treat some of the illnesses but most of the time its too late.
1. Reduce feeding. 2. Start 50% water changes daily. Your tank has not cycled and cannot detoxify the bioload. 3. Add a little salt to the tank at a time to raise to a tablespoon for every 5 gallons. 4. Slowly raise tank temperature to 82 degrees farenheit. 5 Add Pimafix and Melafix to the water. That is likely all you can do to save your fish. I realize some will criticize some parts of the answer. It may be that the additives are not needed. The water changes are critical with a "sick" uncycled tank.
Swimbladder is a disease which symptoms cause fish to become unable to swim correctly, your fish may exibit swimming toward the bottom of your tank or bowl, then floating back up, swimming in circles or laying or floating on his side..
