Answers:I have had fish since the 70s and i have NEVER had a fish refuse food at any time unless it was really full. They do not need time to settle in as some are saying. Guppies are not shy either. If he isnt eating by tomorrow night then you have a sick fish. They have a return policy. If he dies then they refund or give you a new one.
One issue may be if the water is too cold.Did you put him in brand new tap water? If so he is too cold to eat. A fish's metabolism slows down when they are cold. And if he was thrown into shock going into water that was way different in temp from what he was already in then then he is in shock and may die.
Did you use chlorine remover? How long has your tank been set up? What temp is your water?
78 degrees is a great temp for guppies. Is he in a bowl or a tank? Do you have a heater set up in the tank? Is he alone?
More details will help a whole lot.
Also be sure to pick up a book on tropical fish. You cant read enough about them . I checked every book they had in the school library out when i was in school and read cover to cover. There really is a lot to know.
is he also doing the backstroke? :)
I wouldn't worry yet. He's probably just getting used to his new home. Wait a little while more and try again. If he doesn't eat withen a couple of days, than worry.
Give him some time to get use to his new environment. :) Relax.
Don't worry, guppies are very shy fish and they need a couple of days to settle down in their new home.If he still continues dose him in aquarium salt which could calm down fishes.Alternatively represent him a female.
A new fish will take at least 10-24 hrs to adjust to the new environment. Do not try to feed the fish at all for at-least 24 hrs and then start feeding with little food.by then it will adjust to the new water and tank condition and eat normally.
he's probably still adjusting to his new environment..give it a few days or you should probably add more fish if there's nothing else in the fish tank
He's probably just stressed from the change of environment. Give him some time to acclimate. Be sure to get any uneaten food out of your tank.
If he's the only fish in the tank, he might be lonely. Give him a few girls, and he'll perk up.
Lastly, if your tank is new, he could be stressed from being in and uncycled tank.
uhm. i think it is either sick, getting used to environment, or dying
