My fish tails look like their splitting apart and my Betta acts like she cant swim anymore2007-11-24 23:38:22

What's wrong with her and do my fish have that ick/ich disease or what, she just comes up for air and I don't really see her eat?

Answers:

Most likely this is caused by bad water conditions. The frayed fins are due to fin rot, and the bett suffers from swim bladder disorder. I'd start doing 20% water changes every for a week. Test your water for ammonia, and nitrates. Also adding something like marcyn plus, or melafix will also help.

If they start to get red spots, forget it, they're gonna die. We had a fishtank for years, added one fish from PetSmart and all the fish got sick. WAsn't ich, but person at PetSmart sold me some bacteria medicine. Didn't work. Whatever it is, it's fatal.

Well, if your Beta is in a tank with other Beta's then the reason she can't really swim and her fins look like they are splitting apart it's because the fins are being eaten by other Beta's. They're not the nicest fish around, they pretty much need to be kept by themselves.

I had a betta that didnt swim much at all for the last six months of its life. I always thought it was alittle odd but it didnt die till six months later. Plus it was real old. Ive been told if fish have ick they will have white dots on them.

Are there too many fish in the aquarium? They may be fighting.
