My fishs (fantails) color went away
Hi I have two fantails with that weird bubbly brain thing on their head that lost their color. I got them a couple of weeks ago and they were in good condition from a good store and they have some black splotches on the bubbly part, tail, etc., but it seems as though they lost their color. what does this mean? And PLEASE do NOT put "oh, looks like they've taken a bath" or something OR DO NOT put " what? I have no idea what you're talking about." or I WILL report you, i'm sorry but a lot of people have messed with me in the past so just answer the question please.
Answers:The weird bubbly brain thing is called a "wen" and if your fish have that then they are not fantails. They are orandas. The black splotches makes me think ammonia burns. The color loss could be from stress from poor waterquality or it could be from a poor diet too.
What size tank are they in?
Baby-juvenile fancy goldfish (orandas, fantails, moors, ryukins, ect..) NEED 10 gallons PER fish. Adults will need atleast 50 gallons PER fish. They also need a high amount of filtration. (always go one step higher then what is recomended for the tank size when dealing with goldfish) They excrete ALOT of ammonia. They also need regular partial waterchanges, atleast 30 percent weekly if you have them in the correct size tank.
IF you have them in anything smaller then a 10 gallon then you need to do 50 percent waterchange daily atleast. Also feed them once a day, for fancy goldfish soak the flakes or pellets in a cup of the tank water for atleasty a couple minutes so the fancy goldfish dont gulp air and get swim bladder problems wich they are prone to because of all the selective breeding to get their bodies all smooshed together.
some fish, such as the neon tetras, are artificially colored..meaning they are injected with a dye to show color.. not sure of the type of fish, but this could be a possibility. good luck!
i use to have lots of fish, but they only lost their color when they were living in dirty water, how often do you clean their cage? that may have something to do with it.
I'm fairly certain that they are directly affected by how much light they are exposed to. If they are in a dark room, they go white, and in a bright room they have colour.
