My ghost shrimp keeps poking at his belly as what I believe to be "poop" in there2007-11-24 23:38:29

i see tiny little round balls, hes been doing this since yesterday, Iv'e been told they're poop but he's poking at it, what is going on here?What is he doing??

It is feces. He's most likely trying to clean himself and get it off. If your shrimp is having a "dangling" problem with his bowels, it could be a more serious problem such an internal bacterial infection. If it is an infection, don't just start treating it with fish meds. Your shrimp is a crustatian and most fish meds. will kill shrimps, crabs, etc. as well as gastropods. I'd suggest talking to the store that you purchased it from.

You have a female ghost shrimp who is carrying eggs. The balls are green yeah? SHE is using her legs to keep her belly moving which keeps the eggs from settling. Poop goes through inntestines and allof the which would be connected to a colon, and there would be no balls. It is eggs, she will release them and they will be eaten by tank mates which is good for them. Just let her be, zshe is perfectly normal. If you have small plants then you have an OK chance at raising little ghost shrimp. Goodluck
