My gold gourami is having an aggression problem

My gold gourami is having an aggression problem2007-11-24 23:38:31

He lives with 4 other fish and a frog. Lately, I have seen him chase the frog and the cories for their food (see question in "Other: Pets".) He has never had an aggression problem. He has always been the shyest in the tank. I know gouramis sometimes have aggression problems though.

But how do I get him to stop!!?? The cories and frog hate it!!

Answers:

Fishes like humans can be temperamental. Although certain species of fish may be labelled as non-aggressive, nevertheless this is only a guide. You may try to introduce some plants or rocks, so that the fish may establish a territory. This problem may not be solved if your tank is small. In that case, you may need to give the fish away.

separate them now and when your gourami is good and ready for company then join them in the same tank.
If you think the Gold Gourami is too agressive, you may want to put a more aggresive fish in the tank (still community fish) so the Gold Gourami will stop bothering the others, and be careefull around the stronger fish.
gourami's become Territorial as the get older. There is no trick to getting him to stop. You need to separate them if you like you re other fish. He will eventually eat you re frog. and other fish. You can take him to a pet store and trade him for another fish.At least where im from you can.
He is the Alpha of the tank (sotospeak). He may have seemed shy, but that is their temperment. If it is not going to work out you should see if you can trade him in at one of your LFS's in your area for a more community friendly buddy.
Gouramis are mean fish, they are agrresive to anything.I would say to remove him from the tank.
male gold gourami's are very aggressive to all types of fish. if your aquarium is large enough i would suggest that you get another 2 or 3 gold gourami's (not 1 because he will beat the @#%&! out of it) to spread the agression around.
Rearrange your whole tank. He will be too busy checking out his surroundings to bother with the others.
