My Goldfish is pregnant, when she has her eggs do i need to separate them for sure, and does she need anything other than a pile of breeding grass to lay her eggs on?

I'm not sure what you mean by your Goldfish is pregnant. Goldfish eggs are fertilized out of the body. You definitely need to separate the eggs but don't feel bad if you can't get them all. When your female is full of eggs and there is a ready male in the tank if conditions are right the eggs will be released and fertilized by the male. I can't really figure what the trigger is but from what I observe it has something to do with the lunar cycle or time of the month (personal theory).What I used to do was use floating plants with long roots (water hyacinths) that the fertilized eggs adhere to. I then transfer the plants with the attached eggs to tanks with clean water treated with methylene blue (to prevent fungus). The plants may quickly die so remove them to prevent contamination. The fry hatch in about 3 days and you can feed them with boiled egg yolk squeezed through a fine, moistened cloth or very finely powdered fish food (i like using ground tetra bits). The fry will be as thin as hairs so have fun watching them grow. Keep the water clean!

Yes when my Goldfish was pregnant I was told by the petstore to seperate the eggs asap because they will eat the eggs. The seperaters are available in majority pet stores and are maybe about 5 dollars at the most. Congrats your a mommie! lol.

Congratulations! I've had plenty of goldfish, but none that ever became pregnant. You may want to put some sort of fine net over the breeding grass to make sure that they don't get eaten.

Yes the eggs need to be seperated. You'll also need a fry net to move the babies, and you'll need to determine what to feed them. I've heard boiled egg white, strained through pantyhose works well.
