My gouramie is pragment wat should i do2007-11-24 23:39:18

I dunno wat i should do because i readed that thing that male sopost to put bublenests and female put eggs on them. But i have big tank and i have many gouramies in it i duno which one is that male. And wat kinda tank should i put it in??!?!?!??!??!??

I used to breed Gourmis. Relax. Your fishy is not 'pregnant'. She might have a big ol' belly w/ unfertilized eggs, but that's about it.

If you are interested in breeding them, put them into a tank all by themselves. Do this quickly, while she is still "ripe". Do not use filtration that disturbs the surface. The male will build his bubble nest.

Then. he and the female engage in a very interesting dance - he will wrap himself around her and they sink towards the bottom of the tank. You will see the little eggs in a trail behind them. The male will then catch what he can and put them into the bubble nest. Once the fish are done "dancing", remove the female from the tank. The male is generally pretty good at maintaining the nest and keeping the eggs there. Keep an eye on the eggs - soon you will see very very tiny little fish (much much smaller than a baby guppy) hanging around very close to the surface. Then, remove Dad, because he will eat them.

Its a whole lot of work, but it is fun and worthwhile in my opinion. The hard part is raising the little fishy babies past the 1st month. They are still developing and water conditions are critical. But that could be the subject for another question.

Gouramis lay eggs, and don't get pregnant. If your gourami has a big belly it's most likely dropsy or constipation. Most gourami are nest builder, but varies. What sort of gourami do you have.
