My male betta made a bubble nest and i put the female and the male together but all the male does is2007-11-24 23:38:37Answers:

you do know that fish don't have sex right? the female lays eggs and the male squirts stuff on the eggs. Males are made to flare to scare off other males and to attract a female's attention.

I don't know what the bubbles are. I have 3 different male bettas and they all do that in their own tanks.

Try a different female
The bubbles are because they breathe air. Don't put them together, they will fight.
I dont think he wants her
He may be young and inexperienced (most young males fumble around the first few times) or the female may not be ready. She needs to be fed really well on high protein food for a couple weeks so she can make some eggs.

You must watch them really close for a couple hours after you put in the female. He may suddenly become agressive and kill or damage her.

He is trying to attract her..if she does not have eggs, she will not be interested. Good luck
I think you need to take the female out after a couple of days
he is flare to show off his color and all, because he is trying to attract the female, what the male will do is sequeeze the eggs out of the female and then do his thing then place them in the bubble nest he made, but when the male has gotten the eggs from the female take out the female or else she will eat back the eggs or the male will kill her just to keep her from the eggs, good luck.
I could mean he doesn't like her, or she isn't responding. It takes a while for them to start mating. The bubble nest is not a sign the male is ready to mate. My males build them after their weekly 1/2 half of smack talk time, or when they feel like. Not having bubblenest there is a bad sign, but having one doesn't mean he's interested in mating. Have you fed them properly, and let them get acquainted before you put the female in? Is the female showing vertical bars? Keep in mind some males are picky, and won't mate with some females.

PS- You should really pull the female out, do some reading, and prep before they mate.

He might not know what to do. Or the female might be too inexperienced. If they dont spawn soon i would seperate them. If the male or female has any torn or ripped fins, make shure they dont become infected. Most of the time a few rips and tears will occur with bettas. The male is flaring because he is showing off. If he attacks her, it may be because they already spawned. Leave the male to tend to the bubblenest, untill the fry swim vertically. Make shure you have food to feed them. (if they dont like eachother the male of female will kill the other one)
