My molly is giving birth and i need help now2007-11-24 23:38:40

so does mollies give birth or lay eggs? cuz i see round orange things underneath my molly but there are babies too. and will they eat their babies? please help me i dun want my babies to be eaten!

Answers:

Mollies are live bearers(no eggs) the orange things are the egg sacks. Mollies are very good mom's and the baby's will be ok unless someone else in the tank eats them. You'll need to crush up your fish food to feed them, the fry food at petstores is a waste of money, just put a bit of flakes in a ziplock bag and use a rolling pin to crush them. Good luck with the babys!

Mollies are live bearers. Meaing they give birth to live, well developed offspring. And yes, they will eat the fry. If you want them to survive the best thing to do is to move them to their own tank.
I can't remember if it's mollies or guppies (i kept them together) but we had to put this little floating upside down plant at the top of the tank for the (live) babies to hide in until they were big enough to be on their own in the tank. (you are talking about fish right?)
Fish give birth to live fish and alot of fish will eat their young so you need to seperate them from the other fish.
Mollies give birth to live babies. make sure that you have plenty of hiding places for the babies, or get a "nursery net" for them. Make sure they don't get sucked up into your power filter, if you use one. You can put a net over the end if the holes are big enough for the babies to fit through.
I used to breed mollies. mollies don't lay eggs the babies are born and they are ready to go. you do want to separate them from the adults though because the adults will eat the babies..
2 choices either catch them in a net and transfer them or put in a bunch of little places on the bottom for them to hide
Yes mollies eat their babies and all you need to do is put a bath spunge in the tank with the mother and babies so the babies can hide, and the bath spunge needs to be clean! LOL!
Mollies are live bearers so you won't see any hatching egg. Place some plants in the tank so the smaller mollies can have a hiding place and to keep adults from killing the babies. You can also ask the pet shop if they have this little floating cage that separates the molly to its free swimming babies if you have a smaller tank. In my experience larger tank deters adult mollies from eating its babies.
You are CRAZY!!
