it might be ick. if you cant medicate him in a seperate tank take all activated carbon from your filters and add a medication that will cure ick. If you see other white spots this is what it is. And keep the temp consistent. 78 - 80 is good

im sorry to say it. your fish has ich. pronounced ick. its a fungas that grows on the scales of fish. they sometimes have a tablet or liquid you can put in your tank to cure it. go to the local petsmart or petco or petstore and ask for ich treatment. good luck and i hope you get rid of that ich! ;)

You didn't say what size tank you have but you should start saving now for a 400 gallon or larger. The water quality will be very difficult to maintain in a smaller tank. You should test your water for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. If your water is fine after the tests, you should treat with Maracyn Two for an internal infection.
