My suckerfish attacked my black molly and now she swims upside down what do i do2007-11-24 23:39:30

I saw my black molly getting attacked by my sucker fish. the molly is full fize but the sucker fish is like four inches long. the molly then started to swim really funny and is now swimming upside down. I put it in a tank by itself because the other fish in the tank started poking at it. its still alive and breathing, just swimming slowing and upside down. what do i do? are my other fish in danger? the only other bad thing the sucker fish has ever done (that I know of ) is pick on the frog from time to time.

Answers:

Add a bit of salt for freshwater aquariums (half dosage because of the frog). It will stop infections and speed healing. Increase your water changes to keep the tank clean and feed your fish the inside of a pea to help stop swim bladder problems.

I hope you used the water from the original tank in the hospital tank. Check the molly's fins. Think back, did it attack molly's head. if it did there could be a loss of equilibrium or head trauma. It may eventually right itself again I don't know. call your local fish specialist. as far as you sucker, if he is aggressive to your others and you don't want to get rid of him , you may have to put him in his own tank. My pocosimust cleans my fish and frogs but has never done any damage to any of them. Good luck.

If your Molly is still alive,,,,seperate it into a fresh bowl or tank,,using some water from your main tank,,,then add a little salt to the water,,,this has worked for me in the past,,,hope it helps,,not sure what it does,but salt is a cleanser ?,,i was given this tip a long time ago by a friend that knew lots of little tips,,,good luck

it sounds like you have a Chinese algae eater if that's correct they can be aggressive ive had problems with them years ago i would give it to a pet shop or flush it before it harms any other fish and for the molly you should end its suffering

the same exact thing happened to me yesterday my fish picked my other fish and damaged its fins a lil it was breathing fine everything normal except it was swimming a lil funny and then started to swim upside down because its not able to swim correctly wants its fins were damage and it still continued to breath fine and move around but upside down and all but it died the next day so sorry thats whats gonna happen to yours more than likely and the fish that did the nipping the only bad thing he ever did was try to bully my other fish around now that I know what he is capable of Im thinking I am going to get him out before he does the same to my other fish and you should do the same

Yeah, unfortunately, your fish is dying. You need to put it out of its misery, because it is suffering at the moment. I couldn't physically kill mine, so I used to put them down the toilet and used to think that the flush would shock them enough to kill them. And as for any fish that attack other fish, get rid, as it wont be the last time it will happen.

You can take the fish to your local tropical fish shop and they will take them off your hands.

the suckerfish should be a pleco. Are you sure it attacked the molly or it was acting like the other fish taking opportunistic bites at a weakened fish? The fish would most definately die. In its death throes, the fish would be too weak to control its swim bladder to control its bouyancy.
