Need advise on columbian shark catfish
My fiance purchased the fish (without consulting me) I like to do a little research beforehand. I have a redtail shark also, my catfish continuosly swims around the top, and never seems to rest at the bottom. I am wondering if the redtail could be intimidating him, I had to get the catfish out last night, he stopped eating as well as he did, and seemed ill, He is still small, fortunately, all I had to put him in, was a small fishbowl, with a small areator. He seems to be doing some better today, these fish can grow quite large, and I am concerned as he grows that my 20 gal. tank will not be sufficient, I have also read they aquire salt in the water, will this bother my other fish? These problems are why research on buying the suitable fish for someones tank is so important. I have had the fish for only 7 days, but still have gotten attached to him, any help you guys can offer will be appreciated.
Answers:I wasn't able to find anything on a Columbian Shark Catfish, but did come across this about your Redtail.

It seems that your Redtail (though small) is a very agressive fish so it's not surprising to me that the Catfish is intimidated.
I'd separate them if I were you, but I realise this may not be readily available.
Good luck!
Columbian sharks, aka shark cats, do require salt in their water as they are brackish. It will harm your redtail shark, and they also get 2 ft, so i would definatly bring the catfish back to the store or setup another tank for him. Take him out of the fishbowl, keeping him in there will just kill him quicker.
Even if he makes it to 7-8 inches he will be able to swallow your redtail shark.
