New Red and Black Oranda - Seems to be a bit inactive2007-11-24 23:39:34

We've just brought him home yesterday, and he was very active in the waterbag on the way home.

However since gradually introducing him to his new tank, he's been quite inactive, he lies on the bottom of the tank alot.

He seems bright, his eyes are moving and he looks around a lot, no signs of lost scales and very perky, healthy fins etc.

He eats rapidly and with enthusiasm and comes to the surface to do so, however once he's eaten he retreats back down to the bottom of the tank and doesn't really do much at all.

Is it just taking a while for him to adjust after being moved? Are Oranda's generally bottom-dwelling?

Would appreciate advice from people who have kept Oranda's themselves before thanks.

Check your temperature of your tank, Oranda fish like to be kept at around 18 - 22 C with a PH level of around 7 and 8.

Orandas are swimmers of all areas of the tank, so if he is at the bottom, I suggest do checking the temp, he may find it warmer down there, also he may still be adjusting to the new aquarium. If he's not better after a few days, contact the aquarium where you purchased him and explain the situation, he may have been crock in the first place - go and see the other fish and see how they are reacting.
