New aquarium insect problem
I have got a brand new fresh water aquarium. It has been set up 10 days ago by a specialist company. All necessary water cleaning filters, pump, heating, lighting equipment and plants are in place. I am carefully adding the required chemicals every day to prepare the aquarium for the fish that will come. But in the last to days small brownish insects started showing up. In the beginning I spotted two now the number is around 10. They are generally on the stones, on the glass sometimes on the sand. Is this a serious problem? What should I do about it? Thanks for all answers.
Answers:Hmm, they could be Daphnia.water fleas, which are harmless. Then again, they could be a lot of different things..in all likelihood when you get fish in there they'll eat the bugs.but, if you don't want to take that chance you could check out a pet store and see if they have something to get rid of them.
Is it salt or fresh water? If it's SW, is there live rock in there? I would say something was brought in from the plants, or even the sand they used. May just be mosquito larvae. Here's a forum with different aquatic insects mentioned, could do a google search to get a description of them to see if they match what you have. Also, might try calling the company that set the tank up and describe to them what they look like, they should be familiar with it.
