Okay, so my Beta is a MaleHow do I know2007-11-24 23:39:39

If my other Beta is Female?? I would be willing to let them mate, but how do I know?? And how do I know when to take the Female out of the tank..or do I put the male in the females tank? Gosh, this is all news to me!

I am going to assume that the bubbles are "nests" like almost all the replys say, so assuming you are right :)..what should I do now?

Male and female bettas look a lot different. if it has the long, flowing fins, it is a male. Females have small fins and usually more drab colors.

Remember- you cannot house 2 males together.

Female. short fins, less colorfull, less aggressive.

Males, Colorfull, long flowing fins, flamboyant, aggressive.

You can't leave them in the tank together. they have to mate and then be seperated so that she can lay her eggs. Then when they hatch. you have to remove her because she will eat them!

Bettas --- Don't leave the short finned female in the tank with the male. He will kill or damage her extensively. The only time a male tolerates a female is when she has been thoroughly conditioned and has eggs for him to fertilize.

You must keep her away from his sight and feed her high protein food for about 2-3 weeks so she will produce eggs. You will see when she is ready, she will get quite fat. Then float her in a jar in his tank so he can see her. He will build a nest. When he has the nest completed, slowly release her so as not to damage the nest.
