One of my Orandas doesnt seem to be eating What can i do
I recently bought two orandas on Sunday. I have a Cold water BiOrb with 7 minnows and 2 fantails. I give them flakes and pellets everyday. The two fantails eat both ok. The two orandas on the otherhand seem to not know what food is! lol. 1st they only ate the flakes that sank towards the bottom. now one of them has learnt about the pellets. I'm worried about my other orandas who seems not to be able to eat. It swims around opening and closing its mouth trying to eat the food but it never seems to eat any and hardly never comes for the pellets only for the bubbles and swims back down. and also it looks lethargic, just floating around most of the time. Is there any thing i can do, or just leave it continue feeding normally. Thanks for help.
Answers:Stop feeding the fish for a day or three.
Do a 20% water change with dechlorinated cold tap water.
After a few days the fish should come around. Feed very sparingly - hunger will trigger feeding behavior. Underfeeding for a few days won't hurt your other fish.
Try giving them a larger variety of food, or moving them to a separet tank. I've had the same problem with Orandas before
I'd have a chat with the fish shop where you bought them, it sounds like you've got a dodgy one.
Either test your water or get it tested at a store. 4 goldfish plus 7 minnows is way overstocked in those BiOrbs. Goldfish need a minimum if 10 gallons each. If your ammonia or nitrite is more then zero it can kill your fish, so you will have to do water changes to bring them down if they are higher then that. In a tank that small and with that many fish it will be hard to keep that water safe.
