One of my pond fish has small spots on its tail finns2007-11-24 23:39:44

The fish is a comet and is around four years old. The spots are slightly raised but not swollen and are just the same colour as the fin. It has had this for some months and seems to be ok, looked at some pond books but cant see anything resembleing the symtoms, but iam worried it could be something that needs treating. Cant see anyting yet on the other fish. could it be tubernacles on a male fish?

the tuberacles on a male fish are on his gill plates only

some of the people who answer these questions only know one disease, ICK

these spots on the fins might be lumps on the rays of the fins, you especially see them on the longer finned goldfish

there is a parasite called argulus, its usually clear or greenish colored and is cup shaped, catch the fish and see if you can dislodge it with your fingernail

treat your pond with Clout, may have to get your shop to order it for you, dont get talked into using something else, nothing works as well as clout on parasites

It sounds like ick which does need treatment. Go to the local pet or garden shop that sells fish medicine. Treat because it can kill the fish. I hope I spelled it right.

The first thing that sprang to mind after reading was that it could be male. I'm no expert on this though.

go into a pet shop and ask them what they think, they can then tell you what you need to do as you can get stuff to put into the water

it sounds as if your fish has white spot its easily treated all you have to do is go to a oos et store and get a liquid treatment that goes stright into the water, all the other fish in the pond could alo catch this so i would get it treated stright away.
