Pet Fish
Im going to get a pet fish but i dont know what kind whould be the best? I can only get 3 fish tops. maybe 4? so i need a fish that is fairly low maintinence. help!
Answers:Beta fish are inexpensive and fairly low maintenance, They dont actually need a lot of room to survive, but really more water is better. You can keep them in pretty much anything as long as it doesnt have an airtight lid and isnt tall and narrow. the larger the surface area of the water the better for oxygen.
You can get a 1 gallon tank at walmart for 12 to 20 dollars with an airpump, an undergravel filter, etc. the beta fish usually costs around 4 dollars. you shouold only keep one beta fish in a tank, but thats okay because they are very pretty to look at.
They dont need nearly as frequent water changes as other fish. but its sooooo much easier if you just dip out 30% of the water once or twice a week and replace it. with a small tank like betas usuall have its quick and easy. they can also survive in very dirty conditions, but its kind of cruel to make them live that way.
they sell a food just for betas at walmart also.
i woudlnt reccomend keeping a beta with any other fish.
if you get 3 or 4 fish you should have at least a 5 to 10 gallon tank. but youll need to work to take care of it.
Contrary to popular beleif goldfish need more water, they say 10 gallons each to live a long healthy life. its realy depressing that people think its common that they only live a week.. if they dont last very long. something went wrong. they can live to be 20 years old. they are dirty fish, need lots of oxygen, and will coninue to get bigger in a bigger tank. ive heard if you keep them in a smaller tank together they secrete hormones that keeps them smaller, but their organs will continue to grow and eventually they will almost litteraly burst. my husband said hes seen it happen several times when he and his friends used to try to keep fish.
So many to choose from. Go to a pet shop-talk there and decide. You didn't tell us how big is your tank and what you have. that would help. And do you want breeding fish or not.
