Plants in fishtank have a black mossy coating What is it2007-11-24 23:39:49

I have 2 Albino sharks and a Red-Tailed shark in the tank. It's on the inside of the glass a little too.

Algee, you need a placostamous. It is one of those fish with suckers for mouths. He will clean all that nasty stuff. Thats what he eats.

Probably just algae, if it's hairy it's black hair algae. There are some fish that will eat it, can't remember which, mollies and a few others.

salt or fresh water? well fresh water it is very simple it is just algae you can get it off the class with a scrub from your pet store or wal-mart or you can you a magnet cleaner one piece on one side of the glass and the other one on the other side of the glass and they stick together and you scrub or you can go to the pet store and buy a algae eating fish two come to mind

1 Chinese algae eater or

2 a placko but they can get big like 25" long and when they get big they don't

It is algae. A couple of snails will help keep it under control. You can also use an aquarium scraper to scrape the glass clear but other than blocking your view algae doesn't really hurt anything.

Algae or cyanobacteria. Unless you want to destroy your plants I would recommend against buying snails and plecos. These animals will turn your planted tank into a salad bar.

You are better off conducting a water change and scrubbing the algae off.

Sounds like Black Beard Algae and its one of the hardest to get rid of unfortunatly.
