i just got 2 small wag platies to go with my 2 dalmation mollies. my mollies are bigger than the platies. The platies seem afraid of them. when i feed them the mollies run right to the food and scares the platies away and they dont get to eat. Do they just have to get use to each other? i just added them today.

The mollies may pick on the platties. Eventually, they should all get along, but it's not always the case. They will all eat each other's fry.

yep..it takes some time and wait til the mollies have babies, the whole tank will be in an uproar again!!

Mollies and Platties do fine together. They just need time to adjust to the tank and to each other. I wouldn't worry about the platties not eating. Alot of the food flows through the water and rests on plants. They will find it and eat it.

I have lots of mollies & platies in a 90 gallon tank. My mollies are all bigger, but the platies have learned to fend for themselves. If you just added them, everybody in the tank is going to need a few days to adjust to their new living environment.

If you are really concerned, try both sinking wafers & flakes when feeding your fish. This teaches your fish that they can get food on all levels of the tank. The mollies may dart toward the bottom following the sinking wafers leaving the flakes to be eaten primarily by your platies. Dont worry, if you are feeding them enough, all your fish will scavange the leftovers.

Oh, & your mollies WILL have babies (i started with 3 & now have close to 80) & your platies are livebearers, too, & will also make lots of little ones.

The platty are just stressed. All the live bearers can be kept together. They should recover in a day or 2. If the platty keep having trouble throw in a few zuchi slices, or some peeled raw peas. Both platty, and molly love vegs.
