Platys - Babies are eating each other what to do
The babies are in a seperate tank (all from one birth) and after a week the ones that are a bit larger appear to start eating the smaller ones. Anybody else seen or heard of this? Do you continue to seperate the babies as they continue to grow?
Answers:Platys as well as most live bearers are canabalistic. You can make a breeding tank with an open "v" set into the top portion of it and the water flow moving the babies to the bottom of the "v" and out a narrow space between the panes of glass making the "v." I also keep a large quantity of java moss with my livebearers for the fry to hide in. I find it takes about 4 tanks to separate the fish as they mature to minimize fry loss. Then I can separate them as to size.

they are fish, that is what fish do. If you want to give the littler ones a chance, you could separate them out to another tank and let them get a little bigger.
keep them seperated until fully grown
You can either buy a "sanctuary"breeding tank-it floats on the water where the dish itself is submerged, and due to the design the water flows through it,place the smaller fish in it,to obviously protect them from the larger, while sharing the same water.
You could make one out of a "take-away" -transparent lidded food dish, you need to cut holes in the base and the sides to allow the flow of water, putting the lid on -NO Holes, will cause it to float,it should have a "lip" edge, this keeps it afloat.
You may have to practise with the plastic tub in the bath, before making holes in it,test various plastic tubs(with lids),until you settle on a suitable one.
maybe their not getting enough to eat . i've never had that problem . i have platy fry and guppie fry right now .
