Please help
good luck!
It is not a underground filter but my family has always been big into having fish for pets and so far the best filtration system that we have found is the bio-wheel filtration system.
Aquariums require a lot of work. You can't get away from it. However, good fishkeepng lessens it somewhat.
1) Don't overload the tank with fish.
2) Reducing the amount of light on & around the tank will inhibit algae growth. (Note: Always turn off aquarium light at night: fish need 10 hours of sleep.)
3) Don't overfeed. Feed one time each day. 1 flake for each inch of fish is sufficient food. (A neon tetra is a true inch fish: 1"H x 1"L: you must incl the fins in the measurement.)
4) 2 small cory cats & 1 algae eater per 10 gallons of water is a smart idea. (a 10g tank usually contains approximately 7 gallons of water.equipment, gravel, & decor should displace 3 gallons)
A clean tank reaps many rewards, most specifically: your fish's chance of survival is multiplied a thousand times.
Some fishes are cleaner than others. As a rule of thumb, I reccommend:
Tetras.10% water change every 3 weeks.
Angels.small: same as tetras.med to lg: 10% every 2 weeks.
Livebearers.25% every 3 weeks.
Gouramis.same as livebearers.
Goldfish.small: 25% every 2weeks.med: 25% weekly.lg: 50% weekly. (Goldfish are lovely but quite dirty.)
Cichlids.same as goldfish.
