Putting my fry in a 10 gallon
At the moment my fry (1month old) are in a 1 gallon tank and I want them to move them in to a 10 gallon tank with the mother what is the best way to transfer them?
Answers:I'd remove the mother as they tend to eat their young. What I'd do is as follows.
0) Fill the new tank with water about half the height of the 1 gallon tank.
1)Place the old tank in the new tank.
2)Wait 10 minutes
3)Slowly up-end the old tank into the new tank.
4)Transfer the gravel from the old tank into the new. (It's got a lot of bacteria in it that eat ammonia, and nitrites.
5)Slowly fill the 10 gallon tank 2 gallons every hour.
PS- I'm assuming these are liverbearer fry (guppy, molly, platty).
fix up ur tank first making sure the water is the right ph. don't fill the new tank but rather use the water in the old tank to fill the new one. when the new tank is ready just use ur net and transfer them and then put in the other tank water. good luck
check the ph levels and all that stuff and then put the baby fish in a baggy along with some of its water from his tank and set the bag in the moms cage for two or three hrs so that when u put the fish in the water it doesnt go into shock
proud owner of over 20 fish none died we just sold them and we had the same question as u and we asked the people that work at a pet shop and thats wut they told us
put the fry in a isolation tank
Remove some of the water from the fry tank and replace it with some from the big tank. Do this several times over a several hour period so they will get acclimated to the new tank water. They are fairly small to move with a net so I'd use a cup with a handle and scoop them out.
