R platys and mollies good companions for betas2007-11-24 23:39:55

I have a platy and 2 mollies. I want to get a beta but platy and mollie fins r kinda colorful but not really. Will the beta attack my other fish?

My beta is living very happily in a 10 gallon tank with other fish. I have had millies before which my particular beta had no issues whatsoever with. Currently he lives with two fancy tailed guppies (he does eat the babies) two rose colored fish that I am not sure what they are, my sucker fish and some ghost shrimp. No issues, no aggression, no problems at all. I vote that you give it a try, and if you see signs of aggression, take him out. Simple really.

Do NOT put a Beta in with your Platys and Mollies.. the Beta is a very aggressive little guy and will attack, and very likely kill, your other fish. I raise platys and have had Betas as well.. but would never combine them.. that is just asking for heartbreak

Betta's really do not live well with any fish. I had one for about 2 years. that is the average age. , even when they breed. the female will sometimes kill the male. Why do you think they are called. Simaese fighting fish. I guess in the wild they live with others .but in one aquarium they may kill everything in the tank that they can. They are beautiful. especially in a giant ginger vase with philadentrum plant trickling out of the top. stones on the bottom and with a lovely purple betta. mines name was Fido.

you could get a beta but put him in a differnet tank or bowl or whatever domnt put then in the same bowl i tried killed all the fish truss me i had fish for five years

As long as the tank is 20+ gallons, they would get along, but in a smaller tank, there is a chance that the betta might turn aggressive towards the platies and mollies. Bettas are aggressive towards fish that are too similar to themselves, but occasionally, some are ultra aggressive.
